Preventative Dentistry
Plaque Biofilm
Plaque Biofilm is one of the most common dental problems. Plaque Biofilm should be removed from the teeth regularly, if not the Biofilm matures and can lead to dental cavities, tooth decay and gum disease.
Tooth Decay
Tooth decay like Plaque Biofilm is another common health complaint. Tooth decay is a common complaint among young children and young adults and is caused by the increased consumption of sugar and poor dental hygiene. Tooth decay can lead to holes and cavities in the teeth; however, causes of tooth decay can be reduced with regular dental visits along with the cleaning of teeth twice daily with fluoride toothpaste.
Gum Disease
Gum disease is another common dental problem, caused through the build up of plaque, which is seen as one of the main causes of gum disease. Gum disease can cause: Swelling, Soreness and Infection.
The problem can be avoided with regular brushing and flossing.
Treatment will involve an initial assessment followed by a series of visits with the dentist and hygienist. Regular and routine follow-ups are required.
Tooth Brushing
Tooth Brushing is the most effective way of removing plaque and cleaning the surface of your teeth. It is recommended you brush with a soft-bristle toothbrush as apposed to a hard-bristled brush as this could injure your gums.
Cleaning is recommended twice daily followed by tooth flossing.
Flossing
Flossing is an essential part of the tooth cleaning process and should not be forgotten about. Flossing helps to remove the plaque build-up between the teeth and on the gum line, and helps to clean the areas that a toothbrush cannot reach.
Hygienists
Our two hygienists, Debbie and Nikki are absolutely key members of the team when it comes to preventative dentistry
